Sowing the seeds Salad by Caspar

  1. Fill your compost to just below the rim of the pot.
  2. Sprinkle a thin line of your seeds into the compost, ensuring that you leave enough space between the seeds (around 1.5cm) for them to sprout – this could mean using multiple pots so they’re not too cramped.
  3. Cover the seeds with another layer of compost – something around 0.5 cm – and water them with your watering can (make sure you use a watering can with a sprinkler attachment to ensure an even distribution of water on your seeds)
  4. Place your pots on a warm, light windowsill and allow your lettuce to shoot like a rocket!

Maintaining your crop

Most lettuce types (especially rocket) germinate quite quickly so you should be able to harvest your first crop in Growing lettucearound two months – perfect for those summer salads. Keep your seeds watered with the soil feeling moist to the touch.
